LC — Least concern

It is the country’s most common and adaptable wild carnivore. It is recognised by its reddish coat, slender muzzle, pointed ears and long, bushy tail, which almost always has a white tip.

It hunts mainly at dusk and at night — rodents, rabbits, insects and fruit, depending on the season. It lives close to humans without depending on them, and its short, hoarse bark can sometimes be heard on winter nights, the mating season.

Habitat

Almost all habitats: woodland, farmland, scrubland and the areas surrounding villages.
